HPL is a high pressure laminate (HPL). Its composition is bonded paper layers with thermosetting resins, melamine-formaldehyde on its surface and phenol-formaldehyde inside. All this is pressed at high pressure (? 7 MPa) and high temperature (? 120 ° C), resulting in one of the most versatile materials in appearance, aesthetics, strength and durability. Its extraordinary surface is constituted by a sheet impregnated with melamine-formaldehyde resin, which gives it a unique design. Above this decorative design it has an additional sheet (overlay) that's also impregnated with melamine resin, which makes it highly resistant to scratches and abrasion. Finally, the central core, consisting of kraft paper impregnated with phenolic resin, provide it with high impact resistance. Both the overlay and the core of phenolic resin are the two distinguishing features of HPL. The HPL has the peculiarity of being resistant to heat, scratch, abrasion, waterproof and inert due to its non-porous surface,
